Tomorrow during my Service Learning time at Neighborhood Bridges the Breck students in my Lyndale classroom and I will rate the acting skills of the students we work with. Using a rubric created by the U of M and Neighborhood Bridges, we'll look at important components of acting such as facial expressions and the ability to speak loudly and clearly. Our goal is to assess the kids again in the spring so that their classroom teacher can see the growth they've made throughout the year in acting. The classroom teacher will then share this information with the parents of the students.
On November 26th, I will also work with Neighborhood Bridges staff and a U of M CAREI researcher to code the listening and comprehension data we collected last week. We're trying to get a sense of whether students are thinking critically about the students they're hearing. Hopefully, throughout the course of the year, the students will progress in their ability to understand stories deeply.
