Emily, Lesile and Amanda with the conference organizers/new friends.

Researchers Emily Colwell, Leslie Hayes, and Amanda Zeidner braved 90° temperatures in Los Angeles over the MLK Holiday Weekend in January 2014 to present at the Creating Balance in an Unjust World Conference on Math and Social Justice.  In addition to their well-attended workshop, the students created allies from around the US by attending workshops, school site visits, and social events.  Many of the workshop themes related directly to their projects and everyone found it exciting to collaborate with others working toward similar goals.  We even had a couple hours on Sunday afternoon to explore the cultural phenomenon known as Venice Beach.
