Free Minds - Free People was an activist social justice conference in Chicago from July 11-14, 2013.  Daniel Bergerson '13, Patrick Curoe '13, and Gaia Ramsdell '12 all stepped out of their comfort zone to present to a culturally diverse audience, learning firsthand that credibility isn't assumed, it's earned.  Not everyone agreed with them or their work.  In spite of some challenging discussions, they rose to the occasion with professionalism and gained a new respect for the nuances of social justice.  In the end, everyone learned, grew, and made new allies.

As alumni, these young adults are now colleagues rather than students, and working with them as such was an inspiring experience.  As their mentor, I couldn't have hoped for a better experience.  As their colleague, I continue to learn and grow from them.  -BK
